Never send us your footage
We don't need it, and we don't want it. A description of what happened, plus your device and version details, is always enough.
Troubleshooting
When something isn’t right.
The scan didn't find something it should have.
Automatic detection is an aid, not a guarantee — lighting, motion, angle and resolution all affect it. You can add the region yourself: tap “Add a region manually” on the Detection Summary, or draw it on the canvas in the editor, then move and resize it with the handles. Turn on Follow motion if the subject moves.
A redaction slipped off the subject part-way through.
Redactly tells you where tracking became uncertain and widens the covered area rather than expose a frame. Open the region in the editor at that timecode and re-anchor it, or increase the region size so the margin covers the movement.
Redactly can't read my video file.
The format may not be supported or the file may be damaged. Try a different video to confirm, and if a file that plays fine elsewhere still won't open, email us — tell us where it came from and what the format is, and we'll look into it.
The export didn't finish.
The most common cause is storage. Redaction writes a full-quality copy, so a long or high-resolution video needs meaningful free space. Free some up and try again — your original is untouched either way.
How do I delete my data?
Deleting the app removes everything Redactly stored on your device — project data and working files alike. Nothing of yours exists anywhere else, because nothing is ever uploaded. Videos you saved to Photos are yours to manage in the Photos app.

Frequently asked questions
About Redactly and your privacy.
Is my video ever uploaded anywhere?
No. Detection and redaction both run on your iPhone using Apple's on-device frameworks. Redactly has no server, no account and no analytics — there is nothing for your video to be uploaded to. You can put the phone in airplane mode and the app works exactly the same.
Does Redactly change my original video?
Never. Exporting writes a separate redacted copy — to Photos, or to whatever destination you pick in the system share sheet. The file you started with is left exactly as it was.
What can it detect?
Faces, on-screen text and license plates. Each detected region is listed with its timecode and a HIGH or REVIEW confidence label, grouped by type. Redactly also reports the categories where it found nothing, so you can tell the difference between “clean” and “didn't look”.
What if it misses something, or hides something it shouldn't?
You have the final say on every region. Nothing is redacted until you say so — you can deselect anything that should stay visible, and add a region manually by drawing it on the canvas if the scan missed it. You can also move, resize or delete any region, and undo.
Does the redaction stay on a moving subject?
Yes — motion tracking can be enabled per region, and the redaction follows the subject across frames. If tracking becomes uncertain, Redactly widens the covered area rather than risk exposing a frame, and tells you exactly where that happened so you can re-anchor it yourself.
How can I be sure it worked?
Before you export, the Preview screen gives you a draggable before/after comparison over the actual result. Drag the handle across the frame and watch the exposed face vanish. You can scrub the timeline and check any moment in the video.
Does exporting reduce quality?
No. Redactly exports at the original resolution and preserves quality. There is no watermark and no length limit.
What does it cost?
Redactly is free. There are no in-app purchases, no subscription, no watermark and no time limit on the videos you can process.
What do I need to run it?
An iPhone running iOS 18 or later. Redactly is iPhone-only and portrait-only in version 1.0, and the interface is currently English.
Can it redact photos, or audio?
Not in version 1.0. Redactly works on video, and it redacts what is visible in the frame. Audio is left as it is, and there is no photo or screenshot redaction.
